Dominic House
Northwest Modern: Embracing Nature
This L-shaped modern house has an open floor plan, arranged around a partially covered courtyard. Twenty-four feet of moving glass panels slide open to create a free flowing indoor-outdoor living space. The house is anchored by heavy timbers, bolted together with exposed steel brackets in the tradition of warehouses in the city’s industrial districts. Many of the timbers were milled from a pair of Douglas firs felled on the site.
The house embraces nature — it invites views, welcomes light, and brings the outdoors in.
